Planning Yours

Brand photography questions, answered.

How is a brand session different from a headshot?
A headshot is one picture doing one job. A brand session builds a library: portraits, working shots, details and lifestyle frames in a range of crops, so there is always something on hand when you need to post, pitch or launch. Same guided direction, a much bigger plan. My guide to personal brand photography lays out how a library gets built and what belongs in one.
How do we decide what to shoot?
We start with where the images are going and work backwards: the pages on your site that are still empty, the posts you keep not making, the talk you are pitching. Then we build the shot list and the looks to match it. That planning is the real difference in content day sessions, where the point is a lot of usable images made on purpose rather than by accident.
How do you decide how many looks a library needs?
Enough that the library does not look like it was all made in one sitting, even though it was. The mix depends on the work. Realtors usually need approachable and polished in the same set, while coaches tend to want warmth plus something that reads on a stage. We plan yours together before the shoot, and several changes fit inside one sitting.
Where do these images actually get used?
Your website first, most of the time. After that: social profiles, newsletters, press requests, pitch decks, speaker pages and ads. I deliver a range of crops precisely because the same frame has to sit in a wide banner and a small square without falling apart. If the site is the priority, the website brand imagery page shows what that set looks like.
I am not a performer. Will this feel forced?
It tends to feel like a conversation. I direct every frame, so you are never asked to invent a pose or a personality: you are asked to turn slightly, look here, keep talking. Arriving certain you are hopeless at this is the usual starting point, and the guiding is what makes it untrue. The entrepreneurs page shows how a founder's sitting runs.
What do I need ready before we plan a session?
Less than you would think. A sense of what the images are for, a short list of places they will live, and any brand colors or fonts you already use. If none of that exists yet, we work it out on the phone. The investment page covers what every session includes, and pricing depends on what you need, so start with a call to (239) 319-6171.
