Headshots for authors that outlast the edition.

Your author photo is the one that has to last. It goes on the book jacket, in the media kit, on your Amazon author page and in the About section readers visit after they finish the last chapter. I make author headshots in my private Naples studio that feel timeless and full of character, guided from the first frame so the face beside your name looks as considered as your prose.

For The Jacket

A face readers keep on the shelf.

An author photo has an unusually long life. Unlike a headshot you swap out every couple of years, yours may sit on a jacket for a decade, get reprinted across editions, and travel with every review, interview and festival program. It is the image a reader lingers on after the final page, the one a features editor drops into a profile, the one that quietly shapes how your voice is heard. So it cannot chase a trend, and it cannot look like a snapshot. It has to feel like it belongs to the work.

That is a tall order: a portrait with genuine character that still looks right years from now. The secret is that timeless images are built on real expression and classic light rather than of-the-moment tricks, and getting there means you have to look like yourself, not like you are enduring a photo shoot. Guided posing is how we get there. I direct each frame so your character comes through without a hint of stiffness, drawing out the version of you that readers will feel they already know from the page.

The Session

What your author session includes.

01

Directed for character

I guide every pose and expression so the real you comes through, thoughtful, warm, a little wry, whatever is actually true, even if you would far rather write than be photographed.

02

Timeless, not trendy

Several looks and backgrounds in one sitting, lit and styled to age well, so your portrait still works on the next edition and the one after that, not just this season.

03

Ready for the media kit

Hand-retouched with a natural hand and delivered within the week, sized for the jacket, your press kit, your Amazon author page and interview requests, so your photo is ready wherever the book travels.

Made for the jacket, the press, the profile.

An author photo has to work in places that outlast a season. It gets printed small on a dust jacket and large in a magazine profile, dropped into a media kit a publicist sends to a dozen outlets, and pinned to the top of your Amazon author page. I deliver files cropped and sized for all of it, so a single sitting carries the formal jacket portrait, a press version an editor can run at any size, and the warmer one for your own site.

Character that reads, and keeps reading.

The author portraits that endure do something quiet and hard. They show a person, not a pose, with enough character that a reader feels they have met the mind behind the book. A great one hints at your voice, curious, warm, sharp, whatever is true of your writing, and that hint lives in a real expression caught at the right instant. Manufacturing it is nearly impossible, which is why so many author photos land either stiff or forgettable.

It is also why a real sitting beats an AI-generated portrait for an author. Your credibility rests on being genuine, and a reader or a features editor can sense a synthetic face. Worse, a trendy or over-processed image dates the moment styles shift, and your jacket cannot afford to. I watch your expression frame by frame, light you in a way that will not look out of place in five years, and coach the small things so the portrait feels like you and keeps feeling like you for a long time.

A private studio in the heart of Naples.

Every session is shot in my private studio at 5400 Yahl Street in Naples, at an unhurried pace with no audience and plenty of room to think. It is just the two of us, good music and a plan we set in advance, which is exactly why writers who would rather do almost anything than be photographed tend to relax once they realize it feels more like a conversation than a shoot.

I photograph authors who come to the studio from Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, Marco Island and across Southwest Florida, from debut novelists to seasoned nonfiction writers preparing a new release. Whether you need a single definitive jacket portrait or a small set for a press push, the aim is the same: a photograph with enough character and staying power to carry your name for years.

Good to Know

Questions, answered.

How soon will I have my author photos?
Your retouched images are delivered within the week in a private online gallery you can download in full resolution and send straight to your publisher, your designer or your publicist. If you are working toward a pub date, call me and we will schedule the sitting with room to spare.
What should an author wear?
Choose pieces that feel like you and steer clear of anything too trendy, since your photo needs to age well. Solid colors and simple, classic shapes read as timeless on camera. Bring two or three options, and we plan the looks together so one sitting gives you range without chasing a fad you will regret on the next edition.
I would much rather write than be photographed. Will this be awful?
It is what nearly every author tells me, and guided posing is built for exactly that. You will not have to figure out a thing. I direct each frame, keep it feeling like a conversation, and most writers who came in dreading it are surprised to find they actually enjoyed the hour.
Can one session cover both the jacket and press?
Yes, and that is the idea. In a single sitting we can shoot several looks and backgrounds, giving you a formal portrait for the jacket, a versatile one for media and interviews, and a warmer frame for your own site, all styled to work together.
Do you photograph authors outside Naples?
My studio is in Naples, and authors come to it from Bonita Springs, Estero, Fort Myers, Marco Island and throughout Southwest Florida for their session.
How do I book, and what does a session cost?
Pricing is personal, so the best way to plan is a quick call. Reach me at (239) 319-6171 and we will talk through what your book needs and get you on the calendar.
